GoDaddy Microsoft 365 migrationFor businesses and MSPs
Leave GoDaddy. Keep every mailbox, file, and user.
If you pay for Microsoft 365 through GoDaddy, then we simply need to ask them to start the migration and get your team ready to transfer. We run every step in the right order, so licensing, admin access, and mail flow switch over cleanly and all your staff feel supported.
- Free scoping
- Fixed-fee proposal within two business days
- Labor warranty

The risk isn’t the technology. It’s the order of the steps.
Your tenant, users, and mail stay where they are. What changes is who bills you, who supports you, and who holds the admin keys. Take the steps out of order and you can end up with duplicate licenses, staff who can’t sign in on Monday morning, or a second tenant that can’t be merged with yours. GoDaddy warns that buying new mailboxes before the move finishes creates that second tenant.
When to consider starting this project
- GoDaddy resells your Microsoft 365 and you want to buy from Microsoft or a CSP instead
- You use GoDaddy email add-ons that need a plan before you leave
- Email can’t go down, and nobody on your team has done a tenant transfer before
- You’re an MSP taking over a client’s GoDaddy tenant
The whole transfer, run in the right order.
- A pre-transfer review of billing status, admin and contact emails, mailboxes, domains, and DNS
- A plan for GoDaddy add-ons such as Proofpoint, Barracuda archiving, and ConnectWise backup
- Coordination of the transfer request and the temporary administrator password
- Advice on buying the right licenses from Microsoft or another CSP, timed so no one loses service
- Administrator takeover and a password reset for every user
- Post-transfer security, including multi-factor authentication, security defaults, and admin roles
- Mail-flow checks for MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
- Sign-in and Outlook help for your staff
How the move works
GoDaddy publishes the steps for this transfer. In plain terms:
- Check the account. GoDaddy verifies the account. Every email plan must be active and in good billing standing, and the GoDaddy account email can’t be an address on any domain in the tenant you’re moving.
- Plan for add-ons. If Proofpoint filters your mail, your MX records must point to Microsoft 365 instead; GoDaddy asks you to make that change yourself if your DNS is hosted elsewhere. Barracuda archives move to your own account with Barracuda or a Barracuda partner. ConnectWise backups are deleted when the add-on is removed.
- Request the transfer. Contact GoDaddy, which opens a ticket to track the move. Make sure no email account expires in the next five business days; GoDaddy remains your email provider during that time.
- Receive a temporary password. GoDaddy emails it to the GoDaddy account’s email address on the next business day. Existing multi-factor authentication and security defaults stay as they are.
- Take over the tenant. Sign in to Microsoft with the temporary password, then change every user’s password.
- Buy licenses from your new provider. GoDaddy licenses don’t transfer. You buy directly from Microsoft or another provider. We don’t resell licenses.
- Close out GoDaddy. Remove the old plans or reuse them for a different organization. Once the subscriptions expire, GoDaddy removes itself as your reseller.
See GoDaddy’s official guide for the full steps and any changes to them.
Before you start
- Don’t delete any mailboxes at GoDaddy before the move.
- Don’t buy new mailboxes from Microsoft or another provider until the move is finished. GoDaddy says that creates a new tenant that can’t be merged with your existing one.
- Your domain stays connected to your Microsoft tenant after the move.
- The tenant can’t be combined with another existing tenant.
- GoDaddy stops supporting the organization once it leaves, and it can’t move back.
- If you’re licensed for Visio, Planner, Power BI, or Copilot, buy those from your new provider as well.
When a different move fits better
If you want your mail in a tenant you already have, rather than the one GoDaddy resells, you need a tenant-to-tenant migration instead, because tenants can’t be merged. We do that too, and we’ll tell you which path fits during scoping.
From first call to documented handoff.
Scoping is free, and the price is agreed before any work begins. Most projects are quoted at a fixed fee.
Before the work
-
Discover
We start with a free call. You tell us what you want, what you use now, and when you need it done.
-
Plan
We send you a free written plan. It lists the work and any equipment, with a price for each.
-
Sign
You sign the plan, and we put your project on our calendar. Nothing starts until you say yes.
The work
-
Implement
We do the work, mostly over the internet. If a job needs us in person, we come to you.
-
Adjust
Testing and real-life use show what needs work. We fix those things and fine-tune the setup.
-
QA
We check every item in your plan, one at a time. We don’t move on until everything works.
After the work
-
Document
We write down what we built, how it’s set up, and why. Our diagrams help whoever works on it next.
-
Handoff
We show you and your team how it all works. Then we hand over the passwords and the documents.
-
Follow-up
After we hand it over, we check back with you. We make sure everything still works.
We take on a limited number of projects at a time, so the sooner you’re scoped, the sooner you’re on the calendar.
Straight answers
Something else on your mind? Ask us directly.
Will our email go down during the transfer?
Mailboxes don’t move, so mail keeps flowing through Microsoft 365. The part that needs care is licensing: new licenses have to be in place before GoDaddy’s lapse. We time that switch so no one loses service.
Do we have to buy licenses from you?
No. We don’t resell licenses. You buy them directly from Microsoft or from a CSP you choose, and we tell you exactly which ones you need and when to buy them.
How long does it take?
GoDaddy asks that no email account expire within five business days of your request, and it remains your email provider during that time. We build the full timeline around GoDaddy’s steps during scoping.
What happens to our GoDaddy add-ons?
If Proofpoint filters your mail, your MX records have to point to Microsoft 365 instead. Barracuda archives move to your own Barracuda account. ConnectWise backups are deleted with the add-on, so we plan a replacement backup before the move.
For MSPs
Take over a client’s GoDaddy-resold Microsoft 365 tenant and move it under your CSP agreement. We handle the transfer, the licensing cutover, and the security cleanup.
We deliver it white-label or co-branded, work in your PSA, RMM, and documentation platform, and never sell managed services to your clients.
